Starbucks in Lowell?

starbucks.jpg
Today Starbucks’ CEO Howard Schultz said he plans to open 10,000 more Starbucks this year. Lowell better be on the list. We still can’t score a grande Gold Coast anywhere within Mill City limits. A hardship? Maybe not, but it seems like an oversight in Starbuck’s rollout dept. Friends of the bucks, let’s blog em with request for a local branch. I picked out the location years ago: across from DD on Merrimack Street where Advantage Spine Clinic was. It’s perfect, even looks like a bucks. Who's with me?

Please no Starbucks!! Lowell already has Brew'd Awakening and Cafe Aiello, which both serve great coffee . Also, check out the documentary BLACK GOLD. Then you might not be so eager for 10,000 more Starbucks...

Liz, I have not seen this movie, would like to. I love cafe aielo and brewed, but as a caffeine fiend weaned on starbucks, sometimes no other brew will do. there is something in that coffee that no other cafe can touch.

Great Blog! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to future entries....
I personally would love a Starbucks downtown, but don't want to see the mom and pop operations suffer because of it and I think they would. Don't think there is enough traffic to support a Lowell Starbucks anyway.

Thanks Lyn, keep reading & posting.
I think a starbcuks would thrive here. They are not known for going out of business. Starbucks attracts devotees from far and wide. I for one drive to Andover to get my fix. It would absolutely work!

Although I LOVE Cafe Aiello and recommend a lot of people there, I do occasionally drive out of town for Starbucks. I'm starting to agree with the idea that we could at least keep the retail spending in Lowell if we had a few of the more popular chains that people are leaving town to visit. Put up a Starbucks next to a local business and you may end up helping to support the local establishments too. It will bring more people back to downtown--and even discover some of the other great coffee spots.

Just say No to Starbucks and support your local cafe coffee house!!

10,000 Starbucks in one year. I am here to set the facts straight.

Starbucks’ CEO Howard Schultz said
There was some speculation that perhaps it was a signal to Wall Street that we want to slow down growth." Not true, he said, adding that Starbucks plans to open 10,000 new locations over the next four years and increase earnings per share faster than revenue.
Starbucks plans on opening 2,400 in location in 2007 alone.

Woo Hoo!!
