Carnage coming to Lowell

Tom+Araya.jpg
Slayer and Megadeth have rescheduled their American Carnage North American tour. Lots of local metal heads' hearts were broken after their show at the Tsongas Arena originally scheduled for Valentine's Day was canceled.

The tour had to be put on hold due to Slayer's vocalist/bassist, Tom Araya's ongoing, minimally-invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a Cervical Radiculopathy -- an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing or better known as head banging. Araya had to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion early last week.

This will mark the first time that Slayer, Megadeth and Testament have toured the U.S. together since 1991's epic "Clash of the Titans" tour.

The stop in Lowell is slated for Aug. 14. All tickets purchased for the February show will still be honored. For the 411 check out www.paultsongasarena.com

Getting in the ring

fighterset1.jpg
The Sun stepped into the ring today, going behind the scenes at the Tsongas Arena where The Fighter is being shot.

There actor Mark Wahlberg channeled Micky Ward in a scene from the drama wearing Kelly green silk trunks, laced-up high tops, boxing gloves and a six pack of abs, Before ducking under the ropes, he stopped to plant a kiss on the lips of actress Amy Adams. The Enchanted star is playing Wahlberg's love interest in the movie and Ward's real life wife, Charlene.

Christian Bale was not at the set today. The actor who appeared gaunt when spotted walking to his trailer in between takes on Tuesday portrays Ward's half-brother and trainer, Dicky Eklund.

Not only did we see Wahlberg shirtless and the onscreen couple share a kiss, but we experienced how movies are made.

Make sure to grab a copy of Thursday's Sun to read all about today's filming and check back to for up to the minute coverage.

Round Two

The fight continues today at the Tsongas Arena in downtown Lowell.

Lines of extras shuffled into the venue this morning to play spectators in key boxing scenes in The Fighter.

Word is Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale are both there along with Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund. The brothers' mother, Alice Ward, was spotted out front signing up for a part in the film.

We're hoping to bump into one or two of the stars today. Check back later for an update.
