Trading Smith Street for Sunset Strip

One local author has gone "from heroin to Hollywood" and his 15 minutes of fame is just beginning.

Last month Lowell native, Richard Farrell, published his memoir and now he is working with the producers of The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg in order to authentically recreate the Mill City in the film. It's a long way from his 10 bag a day heroin habit he details in What's Left of Us, A Memoir of Addiction.

The producer and director of the award-winning 1995 HBO documentary special High on Crack Street, Lost Lives in Lowell, Farrell has more than two decades of sobriety behind him. His book has been garnering rave reviews since it was published in June from Citadel Press ($13.95).

He will read and sign his book Friday night, 7 p.m., at Barnes & Noble, 235 Daniel Webster Highway in Nashua. Visit www.whatsleftofus.com for info.
