Tough talk with Christian Bale

The silence has been broken. Although it is not too revealing, actor Christian Bale chatted with a reporter at a press conference for his new movie Public Enemies where he threw out a few quick jabs about The Fighter.

Filming begins next week and we hear movie scouts were at Lowell District Court earlier today looking at the second floor court room for a scene in the movie.

Here is a little of what Bale told reporters:

Q: You're looking thin, like you're in training. Is this all for 'Fighter'?

Bale: Yes. This is for 'Fighter'.

Is 'Fighter' actually going? What's the status of it?

Bale: I hope it is.

I've heard that you might be doing it, but when will that be if it is going?

Bale: We might start within a couple of weeks.

A lot of people, myself included, don't know that much about 'Fighter'. Can you talk a little bit about what that film is about?

Bale: It's a true story of two incredibly gifted boxers who were half brothers. The one, Dicky Ecklund, who fought Sugar Ray Leonard at a very young age, when he was twenty one, was an incredible natural talent. He lived a very hard life. Then he came to train his brother, Irish Mickey Ward, to the world title.

You're in really great shape right now and are somewhat known for your training process. Can you talk about how prepare physically for a role like that?

Bale: Box. There's nothing like boxing for getting you in shape.

Is it multi-hours a day?

Bale: Yes. It's a wonderful thing when your trainer is actually the person you're playing.

Had you ever boxed before this?

Bale: I'd never boxed before, no.

Can't wait for the coverage of the making of the movie in Lowell. Hope our favorite reporter, Rachel Briere is "coverage central" for this happening. She's our native LA girl, and writes it like it is, with a fresh approach every time - right from the native's perspective. Keep up the good work Rachel, and hope to see lots of coverage by you this summer during the making of a movie about our native sons!!

For what its worth the production company and cast as of late have been ordering togo food from lowell beer works for almost a month.
