Angelina Jolie has checked into a hospital in the south of France where she is expected to give birth to her twins, a hospital spokesman said today.

Nadine Bauer, press attache for the Lenval Hospital in Nice, said Jolie is fine and that everything is going well. She said Jolie’s admittance to the maternity wing had been planned for some time.

Bauer said the 33-year-old actress will almost certainly remain in the hospital until she gives birth. She said Jolie was admitted so she could be kept under normal surveillance — and is not expected to give birth immediately.

Bauer said Jolie was admitted recently but wouldn’t say exactly when.

“There’s no urgency. It’s been planned for a long time,” she said. “She’s very well. Everything is fine.”
Jolie has said the babies are due in August. She and partner Brad Pitt have four children: Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2.

The Brangelina clan has been settling into a new home in the south of France. They recently moved into the Miraval Estate villa in the French hamlet of Correns, in the Provence region.

That is the speculation in all the New York rags. New York Yankees third baseman (boo-hiss) and the Madge herself are rumored to have something going on.

Madonna whose marriage to Guy Ritchie is allegedly on the rocks was spotted at a Yankees game. A-Rod was also scene paying a visit to the Material Girl’s New York City apartment around midnight.

Madonna threw the media a curve ball Wednesday night when she was photographed having dinner with her hubby.

Hey maybe A-Rod, who is married himself, wants to get some pointers from Madonna on how to get a hit...record that is.

Slugger Alex Rodriguez dropped a bomb today and it wasn't in Yankee Stadium.

According to the New York Daily News A-Rod and his wife have split less than three months after the birth of the couple’s second daughter.

The story on the newspaper’s Web site comes amid reports linking Rodriguez to Madonna. Rodriguez refused to address the topic on three occasions Tuesday, once saying “no” when asked if he had any comment.

Yankees co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner also criticized the team’s lack of hitting before an 18-7 win over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night, suggesting “a little less outside distractions and a little more concentrating” might help the team at the plate.

Oh snap!

The Daily News reported Wednesday night, citing an anonymous source, that Rodriguez and wife, Cynthia, have separated after having “problems” for about three months.
Cynthia Rodriguez’s mother, Evangeline Scurtis, who has family ties here in Lowell also denied a gossip Web site report that her daughter had gone on a romantic getaway with rocker Lenny Kravitz to Paris.

“She is not! I know that,” Scurtis told The Daily News.

Kravitz issued a statement of denial Thursday.

“Cynthia is a friend and is here with the godfather of her baby, who is also Alex’s trainer, his wife and their baby girl. She came here to escape from everything happening in New York City,” he said. “I opened my home to her as a friend and I find it extremely hurtful that I am now being referred to as an adulterer.”

Just another manic Monday...I wish it was Sunday. Oh wait, is that what Nicole Kidman was thinking? The statuesque actress gave birth yesterday to a daughter she named Sunday.

A publicist for her husband, Keith Urban, released a statement saying: “Nicole and Keith Urban are delighted to announce that Nicole Kidman gave birth to a baby girl on Monday morning, July 7, 2008, in the United States. Sunday Rose Kidman Urban weighed 6 pounds, 7 1/2 ounces. Husband Keith was by Nicole’s side and mother and baby are very well.”

Urban posted a message on his Web Site that said: “Earlier this morning Nic gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban. We want to thank everybody that has kept us in their thoughts and prayers. We feel very blessed and grateful that we can share this joy with all of you today.”

The baby is the first for Kidman and Urban, who married in June 2006. She has two children, Isabella and Connor, from her marriage to Tom Cruise. Kidman recently told Vanity Fair that she had a miscarriage early on in her relationship with Cruise, leading them to adopt.

Matthew McConaughey’s longtime model girlfriend, Camila Alves, has given birth to the couple’s first child, a 7-pound, 4-ounce boy, according to "OK! Magazine".

Alves, 24, gave birth Monday night in California, according to the report.

The 38-year-old actor announced that Alves was pregnant in a posting on his Web site in January.

“Camila and I were side by side the entire time,” McConaughey told the magazine. “We are both tired and elated, and are so happy to have created the greatest miracle in the world — having a child and making a family.”

“Now comes the greatest adventure — raising one, together.”

Prosecutors have filed felony charges against Nate Dogg, who authorities suspect threatened and stalked his wife.

Where’s Warren G to regulate?
The rapper, whose real name is Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, was charged Monday. He was arrested last month by the California Highway Patrol after his wife claimed he was threatening her and following her as she drove on a freeway south of Los Angeles.

Hale, 38, will be arraigned July 16 on felony counts of making criminal threats, stalking and a misdemeanor charge of driving while his license was suspended for a drunken driving violation.

He was arrested June 23 and released on bail a day later.

Hale made his name appearing on songs alongside rappers such as Snoop Dogg, Warren G, 50 Cent and Eminem.

Farm Aid, the long-running benefit concert, will be held this year in New England for the first time.

John Mellencamp held a news conference in Boston on Tuesday to announce that the show will be held September 20 at the Comcast Center in Mansfield.

The Boston Globe reports that Mellencamp, Willie Nelson, Neil Young and Dave Matthews will headline the concert, and more performers will be announced.

Farm Aid executive director Carolyn Mugar says organizers have long wanted to have a show in New England to highlight the region’s agriculture. The organization is based in the Boston suburb of Somerville.

Comedian Andy Dick has been arrested in California for investigation of drug use and sexual battery.

The Sheriff’s Department says Dick, 42, was arrested shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot near the Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar in Murrieta. Details were not released.
The former co-star of the TV sitcom “NewsRadio” is being held on $5,000 bail.

In 1999, Dick was arrested for possession of cocaine and marijuana after driving his car into a telephone pole in Hollywood.

Last year, he was cited in Columbus, Ohio, for urinating in public.

Salma Hayek has called off her engagement to businessman Francois-Henri Pinault, her representative said Friday.

The couple announced their plans to wed in March 2007, and welcomed a daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, several months later.

“We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled,” publicist Cari Ross said in a statement. “There will be no further comment.”

The voluptuous 41-year-old, has starred in films such as Frida, Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over and After the Sunset. She is one of the executive producers of ABC’s Ugly Betty and the chief executive of Ventanazul, a production company she formed with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.

Pinault is the chief executive officer of the luxury goods company PPR SA, which owns high-end labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and Puma.

Batman star Christian Bale was arrested Tuesday over allegations of assaulting his mother and sister, police and British media said.

British media had reported that Bale’s mother and sister complained they were assaulted by the 34-year-old actor at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Sunday night, a day before the European premiere of his latest film, “The Dark Knight.”

The women made the allegation at a local police station in southern England on Monday, Britain’s Press Association news agency said.

Asked whether Bale had been arrested, a police spokesman did not refer to him by name but said: “A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault.” He said the man was still in custody but gave no further details.

The spokesman spoke on condition of anonymity because force policy did not authorize him to be identified. British police do not name suspects before they are formally charged.

The Sun newspaper said police didn’t question the actor Monday because they didn’t want to interfere with the premiere of the movie.

Wales-born Bale first made a splash as the child star of Steven Spielberg’s “Empire of the Sun” in 1987. His screen credits also include “American Psycho,” “The Machinist” and “Batman Begins.”

In “The Dark Knight,” Bale reprises the role of wealthy playboy Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego Batman, a brooding vigilante superhero still scarred by the murder of his parents.

The film, which stars the late Heath Ledger as Batman’s nemesis The Joker, took in a record $158.4 million at the box office in its opening weekend in the U.S. last week.

A business management and accounting firm sued Courtney Love for nearly $1 million on Tuesday, claiming she failed to pay them a share of profits from the sale of Nirvana’s publishing catalog.

Love is the widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain. The five-page lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday afternoon claims she sold a portion of his share of Nirvana’s publishing catalog for $19.5 million.

Los Angeles-based London & Co. alleges Love broke an oral contract to share 5 percent of any of her earnings or those from her company, The End of Music.

That company, according to the lawsuit, was created to manage Cobain’s intellectual property, including his career with Nirvana.

London & Co. claims its share from the sale would have been $975,000.
Love controlled most of the rights to Cobain and Nirvana’s work after his suicide in 1994.

The former Hole front woman sold a portion of her rights to Nirvana’s publishing catalog in 2006.

Ethan Hawke and wife Ryan Shawhughes are the new parents of a baby girl.

“Clementine Jane Hawke was born on Friday ... in New York City,” Hawke’s publicist Mara Buxbaum told The Associated Press in an e-mail Wednesday.

The name Apple was already taken.

The couple were married last month in New York. Hawke, 37, has two children from his marriage to Uma Thurman.

French police say camouflaged paparazzi who got on to the grounds of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s chateau in southern France fought with the Hollywood couple’s guards.

Police spokeswoman Capt. Olivia Poupot said Friday the two photographers were wearing camouflage clothes. She said police officers took them and the two guards in for questioning after Thursday’s bust-up at the Jolie-Pitt family’s Miraval estate.

The police captain said both sides filed legal complaints accusing the other of battery and causing injury. She said she believed the injuries were bruises and scratches and “nothing nasty.”

Jolie returned to the estate after the July 12 birth of her twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, in the Mediterranean city of Nice, about 60 miles away.

“Drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping ... it’s just as bad.”

That's what Shia LaBeouf told David Letterman. Now the actor is inserting his foot into his mouth.

The actor was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Sunday after an early morning wreck in which the “Indiana Jones” star injured his hand and knee.

LaBeouf was trying to make a left turn at a West Hollywood intersection around 3 a.m. when his pickup collided with another vehicle, rolling the truck over, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Wolf said.

“It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest,” Wolf said.

Last year, a drunken confrontation with guards at a Walgreens in Chicago led to misdemeanor criminal trespassing charges. Arresting police in that incident noted that LaBeouf was “very courteous and polite,” and the charge was dropped because the drug store didn’t want to pursue the matter.

It could be another blow to Lowell boxer Micky Ward’s bio-pic "The Fighter." Actor and Boston homeboy, Mark Wahlberg told reporters at Comic Con in San Diego this past weekend that he is planning to take some time off when his third child is born in early September.

The 37-year-old Wahlberg also said he plans on marrying longtime girlfriend and mother of his children, Rhea Durham, sometime next summer.

Wahlberg is slated to portray Ward in the gritty tale about his boxing triumphs and trouble with his half-brother and onetime trainer, Dicky Eklund. Filming was rumored to begin in Lowell this fall.

Another famous father, Brad Pitt, was reportedly in talks to play opposite Wahlberg as Eklund. Pitt just had twins with his gal pal, Angelina Jolie, this month.

IMDB.com lists both Wahlberg and Pitt as cast members. It also says the film will be directed by Darren Aronofsky, whose credits include "Requiem for a Dream" and "The Fountain."

Anyone out there know if the fight is called off?

The video game Rock Band is turning in its pixelated musicians for the real ones.

The Rock Band Live Tour will hit the Tsongas Arena in Lowell on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Headliners include Panic at the Disco*, Dashboard Confessional and Plain White T’s.

All three acts have appeared at the downtown venue before, when Panic at the Disco still had that strange exclamation point as part of their name.

Tickets are $36.50 and go on sale Friday, Aug. 8. They can be purchased at the arena box office or through Ticketmaster. Show time is 7 p.m.

Craig Gates, the general manager of the arena, says there are more announcements to come as they line up their fall and winter schedule in the next couple of days. He says there will be another big announcement on Monday for an act coming this September.

The next show is Friday Aug. 15 with Boys Like Girls, Good Charlotte, Metro Station and The Maine. All seats are general admission and $25.

*The bikini clad model does not come with the band. She finds guy-liner creepy.

Lock up your daughters. The Girls Gone Wild bus is pulling into Chelmsford on Aug. 10. The videos known for their amateur girl on girl action and flashing females is taking over the Big Kahuna Grill & Bar.

The pool-side tiki bar’s website says doors open at noon with the fun beginning at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

There will be girls, but no Joe Francis. The Girls Gone Wild video founder settled another of the many legal cases against his soft porn empire this week.

The 35-year-old multimillionaire reached a settlement with a Panama City woman who said she was 16 when filmed flashing her breast in 2002. Her picture was on the cover of a popular video.
Francis’ attorney says the woman will not be paid but will be freed of a countersuit alleging she abused the legal process.

Francis was released following a year in jail in March after pleading no contest to child abuse and prostitution for filming underage Panama City girls. He is facing federal tax evasion charges in California.
