Fun in The Sun

The humor-impaired media mockers at the Web site Gawker are trying to stir trouble between actor and producer Ricky Gervais and The Sun.

You’ll remember that Gervais read The Daily Dish aloud on a video on the blog for his movie, This Side of Truth, which begins filming in the Mill City in April. Gawker says Gervais was “vaguely threatening” when he wisecracked about a gaffe that appeared. When The Dish replied that we can’t wait for shooting to start, the Web site’s faux journalists took that to mean we were “either threatening a Page Six-style vendetta against Gervais, complete with journalistic sniping, or the paper is just continuing to turn out the same type of writing the movie star had so much fun lampooning in the first place.”

Well, the joke’s on them. We like Ricky, and he likes us, too. The British actor, famous for the across-the-pond original version of The Office wrote:

“Some rival New England news outlets are trying to stir up trouble between me and the good people at the Lowell Sun.

These miscreants, who shall remain nameless, suggested that I insulted the local Lowell tabloid and that the editor replied with a threat to have me whacked.

May I point out that we were BOTH JOKING.

And to the Lowell Sun, don’t listen to them. I’ll give you an exclusive before we move out of your lovely parish.”

The flick that stars Gervais, Jennifer Garner, Rob Lowe, Tina Fey, Jason Bateman and Christopher Guest.
