New on Video
Here's a look at a few new DVD movies coming out on Tuesday:
"Music and Lyrics" ($19.99) — Hugh Grant stars as Alex Fletcher, a washed-up singer who is given a few days to compose a hit song for an aspiring teenage star. Drew Barrymore co-stars. Grant — the actor — is by no means “washed up,” but the British actor could use a pick-me-up.
"Because I Said So" ($19.99) — Even by chick-flick standards, this one is brutal. Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore star in the story of a meddling mom who tries to find the perfect man for her youngest daughter. Apparently that involves placing a classified ad. I’ve never read so many amusing one-star reviews about a movie on the Internet. “Prepare to have your IQ painfully sucked out of your brain,” is my favorite line from one reviewer.
"Breaking and Entering" ($21.99) — Jude Law, Vera Farmiga, Juliette Binoche and Robin Wright Penn all appear in this drama about a tumultuous affair (aren’t they all?) and a string of robberies in London. Anthony Minghella ("The English Patient") directs.
"Catch & Release" ($19.99) — First things first: Any time Timothy Olyphant’s (HBO’s "Deadwood") name pops up on my computer screen I am bound by fans of the canceled cable TV series to express my profound love for it and disappointment with HBO for cutting it short. Ahem. "Catch & Release" is a quirky comedy-drama that stars Olyphant, Jennifer Garner, Sam Jaeger and Kevin Smith. It’s worth a look.
"The Painted Veil" ($19.99) — W. Somerset Maugham’s novel comes to life with the beautiful Naomi Watts and Edward Norton, who star as an English couple going through difficult times in 1920s China.
