Cox for City Council: Yes or No?

Should former City Manager John F. Cox consider a run for Lowell City Council in 2007?
If so, do you think he will top the ticket?
What are your thoughts on the matter?

Could John Cox successfully run for election to the Lowell City Council? Certainly.

    Should he? Probably not.

John Cox has, among other things, served as a State Rep, City Councilor and City Manager to Lowell. Still smarting from the rough goodbye by the majority of the City Council, it is proabably a good time in his career to think of himself and and his family.

I'm sure there are some frayed feelings and egos at this time. Time does heal most wounds, although that's not always the case with political s(c)ores. The City Council will always be there and, for the forseeable future, Cox will have the support to get himself elected.

Also, would it be fair to the new City Manager to have his predecessor serve as a critic in residence?

His feathers used to get ruffled when he was city manager and one of the coucilors questioned his actions. You think his ego would allow him to be one of those nine lowly councilors?

The man was a state rep and has connections that would allow him to have a very cushy job. Why on earth would he want to "lower" himself?

Cox would have to be stupid to do that after getting dumped by Lowell. Like someone said, he's probably got some great connections and should look out for himself.

Of course he'll top the ticket but think If he does he'll be taking a step backwards. Think he needs to take a step forward and move on to bigger and better.

I don't think it's Cox interested in running for council. I think its his minions pushing the concept and trying to gather steam. The question is why. Where does all this anger come from. Politicians come and go all the time. I've never seen it taken so personally.

Give it up gang. The gravy train left town and its not coming back to pick you up. Time for a new crop of "insiders" to make their money. You had a nice run.

I think the public needs a new face. Only his loyal followers would vote him in. Great guy in all, I just think it would be nice to have a fresh face from the next generation. Plus he isn't a spring chicken anymore, and neither are his views. But if he does run, I hope he gets in. At least he has experience on his side.
