If asked to name my favorite films of 2008, I wouldn't have to think twice: Slumdog Millionaire; Man on Wire; WALL-E. Ask me to name my favorite CDs of 08 and the list wouldn't come quite as easily. This could largely be due to my obsession with the early 70s... my CD dollars being spent adding 70's classics like Mott the Hoople's Mott, Bowie's Hunky Dory, and Sly and the Family Stone's Stand to my collection. Locally, Melvern Taylor's Love Songs for Losers gets my top pick. A sparkling collection of timeless gems, Love Songs spotlights a gifted songwriter at the top of his game who continually works to refine and polish his craft. Nationally, I loved Jenny Lewis' Acid Tounge and Ron Sexsmith's Exit Stategy of the Soul.
Your favorite 08 album, local or otherwise? Favorite song? Was 08 a good year for music? Memorable concert or live performance? Any dogs or disappointments? Love to hear from you as I continue to make my own year end evaluations. And I swear next year I'm dropping that extra fifteen...a change IS gonna come, dang it!

Hah,
The Dennis Wilson and David Crosby CDs have both been on my radar...I'll have to pick them up.

This was another great year for music, local and otherwise. I was a big fan of Melvern's album as well, but Benedict Arnold is my prediction for next big thing outta' Lowell. Seeing these guys at the Lowell and Behold CD release show at the Revolving Museum confirmed it - they know how to work a crowd and they've got the undeniable talent to back it up. Outside of Lowell, Wild Light from New Hampshire are on track for a major label release next March, and I'm predicting they will blow up like wildfire when that happens. Like you Peter, I spent a lot of the year discovering hidden gems from decades past - Dennis Wilson's "Pacific Ocean Blue" definitely tops my list for reissue of the year, along with David Crosby's "If I Could Only Remember My Name..." (although I think that was actually released in 2007). Favorite new albums include Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, Teddy Thompson, Jukebox the Ghost, the Little Ones, Nomo, and Shearwater. Happy New Year, and thanks for resurrecting AudioFloss.

I always have trouble remembering what came out earlier in the year, but I know for sure that I loved Narrow Stairs by Death Cab for Cutie. As far as local bands, I was really impressed with The Wandas new record, titled New Wave Blues.
