I recently heard Juneau yelp off in the woods. When she reemerged, a fairly deep gouge was between her eyes. She probably ran into a low-hanging branch in pursuit of a squirrel. She's healing fine. Next week it will be one year since a terrified Juneau was dragged from a corner of her cage at the Northeast Animal Shelter so we could take her home. She remains pathetically attached to me. She really hasn't warmed up to anyone else in the family. What's truly pathetic is how attached I am to her. My entire life is scheduled around my daily walk in the woods with Juneau. I just wish she would stop growling at my sons.
Merry Christmas to all.
Good Morning.
I too adopted a "Mutt" from a Shelter in Worcester. Still can't figure out what it is. The vet thinks she's part Australian Cattle dog, Pit Bull and a splash of Terrier. Still wondering what "splash" meant?? Anyhow, My boyfriend and I (reallly me) decided to look at the local shelter in Worcester. I simply wanted a lap dog. I didn't see anyone (dog) that I felt comfortable with. The next day, while at work, I received a phone call... Hun, I found the perfect dog. Oh Lord... The following Saturday we arrive at the Shelter. There I am dragged through 4 isles of barking dogs.. I'm still looking for the lap dog that he found for me. He drags my arm to get to "the one's" cage, I look down to find this "thing" a shaking mess of a dog. I looked at the little sleeve on the cage to find out what this "thing" was? Someone named her "Smoochie". The breed was listed as X? We take "the one" out for a walk outside the pound to see how she interacts with other dogs. She was a train wreck.. Remember those superballs you see in the gumball machines? This dog was similar in energy. After adopting "the one"... We get ready to take her home. Prior to doing so, she lunged at everyone, growled, at small children. What did I get myself into.
We then introduced her to the neighbors... It was like watching a car accident. She ripped the front of my neigbors pants, she lunged at the dog next door (poor Lady)
In the back of my mind, I could still hear the MSPCA staff "you have 30 days to return Smoochie...Hmmm. Long story short, she just needed someone to love her. After those frustrating 30 days... I named her Chance. I though it was fitting because I was certain that no one else would give her another "Chance." Everyone loves our Chance. And, yes I have a moral to her story.....Take time out and give everyone a second Chance.
P.S. I hated the name Smooshie. I thought how would that sound when I call her?
Sorry to ramble on.

Last line, I swear! I am really enjoying your stories of Junea and her antics. Take care.
Hi dave,
I have been following your blog from day one. Will you post Juneau's weight etc in January. Would be interesting to see her progress. Thanks for the entertainment! Love her stories.
Oh dear!!! Poor little Juneau. Hopefully she will heal fast and without a scar. She must consider you "her" person and is jealous of anyone else who can lay claim to you. Are your sons gentle and kind with her? Do they give her treats? It is up to them to win her over. You both have survived nearly a year together now, and she has settled in far better than any of us thought she would. Poor, frightened little thing!! Give her a Xmas hug for me.
