THIS ALMOST WAS "JUNEAU"

1900.jpgThis is one of the dogs up for adoption at the Northeast Animal Shelter. I recall "Sam" being there on Dec. 28 when I wound up adopting Juneau (or "Shely" as she was then known). I was tempted to adopt "Sam" or "Red Snake," another greyhound sleeping there at the time. I had checked out from the library a large picture book on greyhounds. The size of them and uncertainty about how they would deal with our cats pushed me toward "Juneau," who has a scaled-down greyhound look to her. A part of me wanted a greyhound.
This is the description of "Sam" from the Northeast Animal Shelter Web site.

Sam
Age: 2 1/2 years
Weight: 62 lbs
Breed: Greyhound
Gender: Male
Been with us since: 11/7/08
Status: available
12/2/08- Our fenced in yard is finally in place out in the back yard. I had a blast this morning playing with the staff. I almost felt like I was back on the track. Boy did it feel good to run like that! I was totally exhausted after about twenty minutes.. ( guess I'm not as young as I thought ) but it was a lot of fun! I can't wait to have another turn!

I too bought a puppy from a rescue about 1 yr ago and it cost me 2 50 Lbs bags of dog food! Course that wasn't up in the North. Delilah is very well behaved mixed Shep/ Goldie.
I take her to Petco for shots(cheaper). I love the fact I can take Delilah to Petco while shopping. I took my other dog to classes, now I watch the Dog Whisper show. Delilah sits at the door when we come home, she gets excited but is learning to wait till we say HI to her before jumping.

Dave and Family,
I love reading about Juneau & Me. I truly believe that you or your family should pick up a Spanish to English/and visa versa dictionary. She may like to hear a few familiar words. I am sure that some of them will be familiar to you all. My heart goes out to you all but mostly to Juneau. She seems so sweet and she seems to want a lot of love but is still having a hard time expressing herself. Try to remember she is an orphan while she does her unmentionable things! (Easy for me to say) I am a cat owner-they are pretty self sufficiant as you well know. By the way, what do the cats think of this new addition? You haven't mentioned that but I know this is not about them---this is all about Juneau & Me!!! I hope you continue to keep us posted.

Your words about Juneau are both comical and heart warming. Hopefully your readership will understand the commitment necessary when adopting a pet. We lost our 14 yr old Dalmatian,Shannon November of '08. Depression quickly set in so we searched on the net and found Dalmatian Rescue of West Virginia. They e-mailed us all the info and we thought the perfect choice would be a 16month old Dalmatian/Lab mix. His name is "Adan"--he was in a gas house in Georgia. They didn't tell us Adan was not house trained or that he loved to eat furniture--especially couches! We made a few frantic calls thinking we would have to give him up but his loving face made us melt. We went into formal training & got a crate. Having joined our family for over a year now we are happy to announce Adan only eats food and does not need the crate. Each night when I come home from work he's sitting on our bed waiting for me. He has made more friends in the neighborhood than we have. Our home is once again complete. Enjoy Juneau;don't give up and the reward will be an unconditional love only a true animal lover can relate to!
